Corns are small circles of thick skin that can develop anywhere on the foot that is weight bearing or where a shoe has been rubbing.
There are various types of Corn;
Hard Corn- These are the most common Corn that mainly develop over bony areas, they have a hard centre and when pressure is placed on them they are extremely painful.
Soft Corn- These appear usually in between the toes and have a soggy white appearance, they become sore as sweat is trapped and can sometimes become infected.
Seed Corn- These Corns are quite small and usually appear on the bottom of the foot in small clusters and are usually painless.
Vasular/Neurovascular Corns- Both of these types of Corn can cause extreme pain. When a corn has been present for some time blood vessels and nerve fibres can appear inside the Corn making any pressure on them very uncomfortable.
Fibrous Corn- This type of Corn usually occurs when it has been present for some years and becomes attached to the deeper layers of the skin.
