Athletes foot is an infection caused by fungus which can appear in between the toes and on the feet, the medical term for it is ‘Tinea Pedis’. It can make the skin appear red flaky and it will feel itchy.
It is more common in males and teenagers and as the name suggests is often found in those who play sports as it is spread via communal showers and changing rooms, and also those with warm sweaty feet.
If treated correctly athletes foot will only fast a few days or weeks, but if misdiagnosed or appropriate treatment not used it can last for several months if not years.
