Biomechanics

Biomechanics is the study of human gait (walking pattern) and the bodys posture. Incorrect foot positioning and posture during the gait cycle can cause many problems including, foot and ankle pain, sprains, knee pain, back pain and a reduction in mobility. By assessing the joints and their associated structures the Podiatrist can identify the source of pain and sucessfully treat it using some of the following methods.

• Assessment of the foot, ankle and knee structures
• Analysis of posture and walking
• Corrective insoles and orthothics
• Footwear advice
• Prescription of exercises
